Exploring the evidence that the works of Shakespeare were written by Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford

Shakespeare’s medical knowledge

In the 2000 edition of The Oxfordian, Frank M. Davis, M.D., wrote this comprehensive article on medical knowledge revealed in Shakespeare’s plays.  His interest in Shakespeare came from his father; his interest in the authorship question from meeting and becoming friends with Charlton Ogburn in 1994.  Up to 2000, few books had been written on this subject and it was Dr. Davis’ article that spurred SOF president Earl Showerman to pursue the topic.

Dr. Davis did his undergraduate work at Emory University and took his M.D. at Tulane University in 1960, completing his residency in neurological surgery in 1968. He was co-founder of the Tallahassee Neurological Clinic where he practiced until retiring in 1993. He was a member of the American Medical Assn., Southern Neurosurgical Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, and was past president of the Florida Neurosurgical Assn. He authored or co-authored a dozen medical publications.  He died in 2021.
