Exploring the evidence that the works of Shakespeare were written by Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford

Oxfordian Composition: Daniel Steven Crafts and Jonathan David Dixon

Gonzo OperaJoin Bob Meyers in this latest edition of the SOF Interviews for a fascinating chat with composer and teacher Daniel Steven Crafts and actor, lyricist, and Blue Boar Tavern bartender Jonathan David Dixon. The duo discuss their musical collaborations and delve into the creative process, classical music in the 21st century, Gonzo Opera, and evoking Edward de Vere as Shakespeare in symphonic form.

A longtime Oxfordian, Daniel teaches music and literature (and offers classes on the authorship question) at the University of New Mexico. His primary passion is orchestral writing, particularly operas. Listen to Daniel’s Symphony No. 17 “Oxford” here.

Jonathan, an actor, composer, writer, and illustrator (and legendary Blue Boar Tavern bartender!), has collaborated with Daniel on librettos and lyrics.

Their chamber opera, inspired by 1950s horror comic books, will debut on Halloween. Operas from the Crypt: The Other Side of the Veil runs Oct. 31 – Nov. 3 at Albuquerque’s FUSION | The Cell (tickets and info here). Don’t miss it if you are anywhere near!

Visit Daniel’s website for a deeper dive into his work.

Enjoy the interview!
