Registration at Hotel. For those arriving in Hartford on Wednesday, October 16, a registration area will be set up on the second floor of the Homewood Suites Hotel. The hotel front desk will be able to tell you which room it is in. The same desk will be open on Thursday morning from 10 to 11 before registration moves to the Mark Twain House lobby.
Twain House Tours. Twain House tours for all registrants to the conference are scheduled for Friday during the two-hour lunch break but anyone wishing to do the tour on Wednesday instead can simply show their registration badges at the Twain House tour desk and they will give you a free ticket (normally about $20). We are suggesting going on the 35-40 minute tour at either 2, 2:30, 3 or 3:30.
Harriet Beecher Stowe House. Just across the lawn from the Twain House is Harriet Beecher Stowe’s
charming Victorian home which is also well worth a visit. Again, just show your registration badge and the ticket price will drop from $16 to $8 for you. We are suggesting doing this 40-minute tour (the focus is on the power of art to change minds) at 3:30, 4 or 4:30.
Reading at Stowe House. From 5:30 to 7 in the Stowe House, SOF Members Patricia Keeney and Hank
Whittemore will both be participating in a free reading and discussion about Keeney’s recent novel One Man Dancing (available on Amazon) and the screenplay Hank has done based on it. Pat will be reading from the novel and then will field questions about it and (with Hank’s input) the anticipated film version.
Café. Throughout the afternoon, a small café is open in the Twain House Museum. It serves sandwiches, coffee and tea. For the evening, lots of good Hartford restaurants will be listed in the registration package.
