An electronic edition is now available of the groundbreaking book, “Shakespeare” Identified in Edward de Vere the Seventeenth Earl of Oxford, which first recognized Oxford as the author who wrote under the pseudonym “William Shakespeare.” The publication of this ebook commemorates the 470th birthday of Edward de Vere (Earl of Oxford), who was born on April 12, 1550, and died on June 24, 1604.
The book, by British scholar J. Thomas Looney (1870–1944), was originally published on March 4, 1920. The SOF, throughout 2020, is celebrating the centennial of Looney’s breakthrough achievement. A scholarly centenary edition of his book, edited by James A. Warren, was released in print in 2018; it is that edition that is now available in Kindle format through Amazon.com for $9.
The formatting of the ebook includes features such as hot-linked footnotes, searching, highlighting, and note-taking. Readers can access the Kindle edition of “Shakespeare” Identified on any electronic reader by downloading the Kindle app. See “Get Started with the Free Kindle App.”
Warren, editor of the centenary print and Kindle editions, expressed his pleasure at being able to make the new edition available in time to celebrate Oxford’s birthday: “I hope this new edition of Mr. Looney’s revolutionary book will enable a wider audience to become more familiar with the idea that it really was Edward de Vere who wrote under the pseudonym ‘William Shakespeare’ and that it will lead them to examine the mountain of corroborating evidence uncovered by scholars over the past hundred years.”
